The hits keep coming for Washington University in St. Louis alum Morgan DeBaun (AB ’12).

She has been named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2018 list of 50 Most Daring Entrepreneurs, alongside the likes of Elon Musk, Chance the Rapper and the CEOs of Uber and Spotify, to name just a few.

Bucking the trend of a shrinking news media landscape, DeBaun’s startup Blavity, an online media platform by and for black millennials, is experiencing not only massive success but also rapid growth. Just this summer, she raised $6.5 million from investors that included Google Ventures and Comcast Ventures. She is expanding her media empire to include other black-millennial-focused sites like 21Ninety, a lifestyle site aimed at women of color; Shadow and Act, focused on all things black entertainment; and Travel Noire, a travel and leisure site.

We recently featured DeBaun as a “high riser” in our ongoing WIN (WashU Women Innovate) campaign.
