St. Louis-based social venture GiftAMeal received the 2019 Innovation Award at the Mayor’s Business Celebration Luncheon on October 11th.
GiftAMeal was founded by WashU alum Andrew Glanz (BSBA ’17). He also is the company’s CEO.
GiftAMeal received the reward in recognition of its significant contribution to establishing St. Louis as a startup and technology hub.
GiftAMeal is a free mobile app that helps provide a meal to someone in need each time a user takes a photo at a partner restaurant. Restaurants pay a monthly subscription to be on the app as a mix of marketing and giving back. GiftAMeal partners locally with Operation Food Search to distribute food to pantries in the Greater St. Louis Area. 165 restaurants currently participate and over 330,000 meals have been provided so far.
“…St. Louis really is a special place to build a company. We look forward to continuing to grow GiftAMeal and grow our impact on the St. Louis startup ecosystem and community as a whole.”
– Andrew Glanz
The St. Louis startup scene has been instrumental in GiftAMeal’s success; they went through the Capital Innovators Accelerator in 2016, became ITEN Mock Angel Certified in 2018 and received a $50,000 Arch Grant this year.
