College students present their health tech innovations at a demo day event

Sling Health Demo Day

Sling Health’s annual demo day will take place Friday, April 13 in St. Louis.

About Sling Health

Sling HealthTM(formerly IDEA Labs) is a student-run biotechnology incubator. Founded in 2013 at Washington University in St. Louis, Sling Health brings together students, faculty, staff, and local entrepreneurs to develop novel tech solutions to tackle unmet needs in healthcare delivery and clinical medicine. The organization further hopes to:

  • make medical entrepreneurship attainable for students
  • develop a nationwide culture of innovation
  • teach engineering, medical, and business students the skills and processes necessary to invent and implement new biomedical technologies

About Demo Day

Demo Day is Sling Health’s flagship event. Student teams from universities around the country showcase their ideas, interface with top talent and investors and receive feedback from clinicians, entrepreneurs, and engineers. They also vie for financial prizes to help jumpstart the commercialization of their intellectual property.

This year, roughly 250 undergraduate and graduate students in engineering, biology, computer science, business, and medicine participated on forty teams. Their Demo Day presentations are the capstone of their yearlong participation in Sling Health.

The audience at the event will include entrepreneurs, manufacturers, faculty, investors, and media from St. Louis and around the country.

In addition to team presentations, there will be introductory remarks, a VIP reception, a keynote address, tech demos, food and drink, and the awards ceremony. This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Jeff Karp, a leading researcher in the fields of drug delivery, medical devices, stem cell therapeutics, and tissue adhesives at Harvard Medical School.

When: Friday, April 13, 2018, 6-9 pm.
