May 15th –Skandalaris Center Freelance Boot Camp

Three-Day Freelance Bootcamp May 15-17 | 1:00-2:30PM | Room Update: TBD FREE interactive three-day workshop series for students interested in freelancing. Learn how to get started in freelance, attract your first clients, and maintain your client base. Each session builds upon the previous one, so you are highly encouraged to attend all three.

May 15 – Branding: What do you have to offer?
May 16 – Marketing: How do you reach your ideal client?
May 17 – Q&A: Local freelancers share all

May 8-18 – WashU Sponsored TechShop Memberships

The Office of Technology Management (OTM) is now accepting applications from WashU faculty, staff, and students for the summer semester WashU-sponsored TechShop membership. TechShop is a community-based workshop and prototyping studio on a mission to democratize access to the tools of innovation. Packed with cutting-edge tools, equipment, and computers loaded with design software featuring the Autodesk Design Suite, they offer the space to make, and the support and camaraderie of a community of makers.

May 15 – TechShop STL Member Mondays

Join the community of makers at TechShop STL for Member Mondays. New member orientation begins at 5:30PM, and a makers’ potluck follows at 6PM. Bring a dish to share, enjoy a beverage, and peruse member projects. Best way to beat the Monday blues!

May 16 – Venture Cafe Night: 39 N

Every 3rd Tuesday of the month, Venture Café Night: 39 North unites entrepreneurs, scientists, and innovators together to learn, mentor and support each other. The focus is on facilitating discussions and connections within plant science and agricultural technology. Programming will be curated around a variety of topics from food and energy security to sustainability to big data and machine learning. Join us! Beer & Wine will be provided.

May 16 – Exploring Where Good (Business) Ideas Come From

“Problem, Passion, Plan” – the foundations of every entrepreneur’s or small business owner’s journey. Join The BALSA Foundation, BioSTL and Center for Emerging Technologies (CET) for an evening of exploration and hands-on learning on how to get your journey started. Antionette Carroll President and Founder of Creative Reaction Lab will start us off with an overview of the ideation process, or how one comes up with business ideas. This will be followed by a small group activity to get your problem-solving, solution-finding muscles warmed up. The evening will wrap-up with the opportunity to meet the program managers and volunteers who are ready and willing to help you take your own idea to the next level. Highly recommended for dreamers, doers and the entrepreneurially curious of all ages and backgrounds who want to get connected, hone their skills and/or get serious about vetting their business idea.

1 Million Cups is a free, weekly national program designed to educate, engage, and connect entrepreneurs. Developed by the Kauffman Foundation, 1MC is based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and network over a million cups of coffee.
